if you follow me on twitter, you knew this was coming maybe perhaps.

just to be clear, this is totally a snarky lark...yesterday i was given a link to a Bomango discussion on 4chan. It was pretty illuminating to read for a couple of reasons. For one thing, it's very bizarre to see my stuff discussed outside of dA and all. I just generally assume I'm known here and nowhere else. Silly, i know, but i kinda live on an island, so...

But it was also an interesting read because it highlighted a lot of points about "Bomango" that are very frustrating to an audience, and to a creator as well. The 3 C's: Canon, Continuity, and Chronology. I will be the first to admit that I've really come at this "series" and its characters in a VERY sideways manner, creating one-shots, what-ifs, and developing characters absent of a cohesive storyline. The result is (i think) fun characters with personality and a certain amount of development both visually and characteristically, but without a solid foundation, reference, or ultimately a goal of any kind. I've hinted at things, flirted with ideas, but I've yet to present a full narrative and that does screw with people.

Also it turns out that Gogo is either a pretty cool brown-skinned muscle-y girl with fun speech and attitude, or a very frustratingly presented walking fetish, or perhaps retarded, or whatever. I guess people are going to have different opinions about such things.

On the whole, I'm glad I was given a peek outside my usual internet stomping grounds. Minus a troll or two, it seemed like people had a generally positive reaction to this "non-comic" i've got going on, but are often thwarted in their enjoyment by me messing around and not committing to the aforementioned 3 C's.

Final note: "Mary Sue Ultrabitch" was a phrase I read and immediately thought made an excellent t-shirt. Whether or not you think Gogo qualifies as such is entirely your opinion, but it sure sounds cool :)

It's always hard for an artist / creator to see its work judged, especially on the interwebs. The comics and related artworks already establish the characters and the mood of the universe, and compose a formidable field of experimentations and stories, it doesn't always need to lead on something huge, absolutely cohesive, or let's say more substantial.
I think every artist should do the stuff they want before deciding to move on something bigger.

By the way, I just discovered your work, it's freakin' amazing.

DO you think you could do a tutorial for how you do full-color illustrations? I like the way that you paint, and I'm interested to see how you do it. ^u^

She can't be a true Mary Sue because the "story" (or whatever you have) is built around the fact that she is as powerful as she is. It's like what Jontron said about Banjo Kazooie being a collectathon. In most games, it's bad, but that game was built to make it work. Your character's setting works for what you're trying to achieve.

Your stuff rocks. Cannon or not. You're an inspiration. I wouldn't let anyone's opinion tell you different. You are one of the first people I subscribed to and have looked forward to your stories since.

4chan's actually where I first found your art a long time ago, haha. Probably in a /tg/ thread. Love it, tons of... character to your characters. Memorable! That's a good word.

I've seen some Mary Sue's in my time and they've never had to apologize when they didn't want to.
