awhile back i posted the original concept of this character: [link]

but i'm by no means done with Mani Quick :D I like her name too much.

I updated this character, refitted her to be slightly younger, and contemporized her setting. Lately my "fun writing" has gotten bogged down with a lot of expository sci-fi claptrap and I wanted Mani to be more straightforward. Present-day american tomboy, still a jerk, still a smartaleck. With time I hope to actually present her story.

left to right: everyday clothes, school uniform (can tell she loves it) and "Bones"---part of Mani's story revolves around the fact that she's created an alternate persona for herself, kind of like a superhero alter ego (even though it's just her with a funky cap, facepaint, and a bat). In scary and/or unfamiliar situations, Mani relies on this as psychological armor. It's especially vexing to her parents because it's as much deliberate as it is mental. It's also vexing because "Bones" likes to trespass and smash things ^^;

I really love this, you have a lot of drawing skill and you did a great job on coloring this. Howeer, she's built a lot like a really young girl or a guy. How old is she? If she's suppose to have gone through puberty I suggest giving her at least the hint of breasts or slightly larger hips so that people aren't confused, if she hasn't yet hit puberty then I'm sorry, the school uniform makes her look older lol.

Sounds like an interesting story.

I'd be concerned, too, if my daughter had an alternative identity in which she paints her face like a skull and smashes things with a baseball bat.

I like this design better. Maybe because she's easier to relate to without the cape and fantasy setting :shrug:? Either way, she's pretty cool. Diggin' the facepaint.
