"Just sing, little darlin', sing with me..."

put this together on the spur of the moment, inspired by First Aid Kit's beautiful "Emmylou", lovely little song with as warm and winsome a chorus as you'll ever find. [link]

characters are both mine, Trips Hickory on the guitar, Didi Bomango on the tambourine.

enjoy :)

Why am I suddenly getting the idea of Gogo sitting in a treehouse, plucking a banjo? :fear:

Looks like Didi is really enjoying her sing-a-long with Emmylou. Curiouser and curiouser.

As someone who is forced to have "new" country music shoved down there throat every work day, I can appreciated this song because its not crap. Scratch that, its actual pretty damn good, this is what country should be, not some bizarre country hip hop hybrid telling me about how mighty and great being country is over and over. I swear this is the kind of song someone falls asleep to while laying in a sun beam. And so I commend you Mr. Heist, and not just for your fine choice of music, artistic skills, and general awesomeness. But also for your mastery of the art of drawing a person with there legs crossed, a skill that has eluded me for years. Also Trips and Didi look great together :D /rant

A lot of the current crop of country music is meant as dumb fun. You don't generally get a whole lot of experimentation lyrically or musically on the top 40 radio stations, and thematically it's a pretty narrow road. As you mentioned, "country" seems to be more and more about pride in whatever the hell it is it means to "be country", or how great it is to be an unrefined redneck or how everything's really just simple, city boy :XD: But I kind of miss the musical folksiness of songs like this one, which is less about partying, drinking, or pushing a message and just being a well-made piece of singing and instrumentation.

Heck, i don't have to justify liking it. It's just a good-feeling type of music :)

thanks!

Oh my goodness, this is so precious! I'm hoping there'll be more art of these two, they look so cute together.

Wonderfull picture, and a lovely song too.
I love country, but I'm more into the heavy cry your eyes out stuff, like Johnny Cash's Hurt or Alan Price's Time and Tide.

Johnny Cash covering "Hurt" was a great, gut-wrenching piece of music by a weary old superstar, and i loved it.

Totaly. But then again, the really joyous ones can be a blast, like Dolly Parton or Buck Owens.
